About Nico
Supporting intimacy and integrity with the other-than-human world
Hi, I’m Nico—creator of The Owl House. In the wake of over 7 intentional years of inquiry, documentation, travel, cross-cultural experiences, severe chronic illness, and eventually recovery, I created this offering as a life-prayer to support already-existing movements to rekindle the sacred, living space between humanity and the countless other forms of life with whom we share this holy Earth.
Born in the rolling hills of Middle Tennessee, my (more recent) story of becoming is the story of multiple kinds of ethnic mixing over many centuries in on Turtle Island (also known as the United States/North America). My people—who come from West Africa, England, Ireland, and the Cherokee Nation—were teachers, farmers, ministers, embalmers, and doctors; The Owl House is an extension, a kind of culmination, of their work.

In 2014 I left Turtle Island and spent many years of living as a nomadic artist exploring earth-based spirituality, which brought me to spend time among and learn from various earth-honoring communities throughout the American continents. After four years, I became severely chronically ill and spent the next three moving through an intense process of healing and recovery. This unique personal experience, combined with a formal background in anthropology, has granted me an ability to gently offer perspective, support, and cultural frameworks of understanding for other Western-influenced folks moving through the complex, layered processes of healing, initiation, decolonization, and consciousness-expansion. My passion lies in living intimately, and part of that is creating the conditions and containers for others to connect more deeply with themselves, the Earth, the elements, and the more-than-visible world, and to engage (safely) with the endless healing properties of the natural elements and the environment.
Beyond this, I am a Godfather, uncle, brother, son, lover of futbol and forests, rivers and music, sunlight in water, and a dedicated student of Amazonian plant medicine in the Shipibo tradition since 2015.
